The published book of the Lithuanian Metrica is the Book No. 47, the Book of Inscriptions No. 47 (1565–1567). The original manuscript of the Book, though listed in the 1623 list of the original Lithaunian Metrica books, was most likely lost in the mid-17th century in the course of the wars with Moscow. The 16th century manuscript duplicate of the original book that served as the basis for this publication is currently kept in the fund No 389 (the Lithuanian Metrica) at the Russian State Archives of Ancient Acts in Moscow. The duplicate written on paper decorated with watermarks and bound in the leather covered boards consists of 150 folios containing registers – one transliterated in Polish and the other in drawn up in Ruthenian – and texts of 155 documents. The documents were drafted in Ruthenian and Polish in the period from October 1565 to January 1567. Documents of the Book No 47 of the Lithuanian Metrica are a source for the research of family land-ownership, genealogy, and cities of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania; the Book offers ample material in the military history, diplomacy, and economy.
